HC Truck Licence Training in Mareeba, Atherton and the Cape

Looking to upgrade your licence to drive even bigger vehicles? Our HC Truck Licence training in Mareeba, Atherton, Cooktown, Hopevale or Weipa gives you the skills and confidence to handle Prime Movers, Semi-Trailers, and Rigid trucks towing heavy trailers. With expert instructors, modern vehicles, and personalised training, we’ll prepare you to pass your assessment and drive safely in the transport industry.

You have two options when completing your HC Licence. You can choose to complete training for a Restricted HC Licence in either an Automatic/Syncromesh Truck (Automatic or Manual, just like a normal Car), otherwise for an Unrestricted HC Licence, you can complete the training in a Road Ranger Geared Truck (Crash Box). Read on below for more information!

MR/HR to Restricted Heavy Combination (HC) in an Automatic Truck and Trailer

Restricted HC

What is a Restricted Heavy Combination (HC) Licence?

A Restricted Heavy Combination (HC) Licence allows you to drive trucks and buses with Automatic or Manual (Synchromesh) Gearboxes such as:

  • Prime Movers with a Semi-Trailer attached

  • Rigid Trucks towing a trailer over 9 tonnes GVM

  • Vehicles towing two-axle trailers

This licence is a must-have for anyone wanting to step up from Heavy Rigid (HR) and operate larger combination vehicles for freight, logistics, or agriculture.

Who needs a HC Licence?

If you’re planning a career in long-haul trucking, logistics, or heavy freight, a HC Truck Licence from Mareeba Truck School is essential. It gives you access to high-demand jobs across Queensland and is also the final step before progressing to a Multi Combination (MC) Licence.

What are the eligibility requirements?

To apply for a Restricted HC Licence in Queensland, you must:

  • Have held your MR/HR Licence for a period of 12 months before upgrading to a HC Licence.

  • If you have an Unrestricted HR License, you can do your training and test using this package in the Automatic Truck and still be upgraded to an Unrestricted HC License (meaning you will have a HC License with no truck gear box restrictions).

  • If you have a HR (Condition B) license and complete your training/test using this package in the Automatic Truck you will receive a HC (Condition B) License that restricts you to driving Heavy Combinations in an Automatic or Synchromesh Geared Truck only.

  • Have completed the Heavy Vehicle theory test with the Department of Transport, which can be done before, or on the day of your practical driving test.

  • Complete a Practical HC Truck Training and Assessment with a Queensland Transport Examiner.
